All these times scientists and avid researchers have never stopped searching for ways to make human life easier. New ways, objects, things, and stuff keep coming up, especially on how to deal with health issues. Since most Americans today have issues on how to maintain a healthy body weight, many methods have been discovered, practiced and put online for many readers and health-conscious people to read.

Recently, the white bean extract has been popular in the news, advertisements and endorsements from our friends and acquaintances. Many people, upon reading that it is helpful for weight loss, skip reading the rest of the articles and immediately go to a nearby drugstore to buy some white bean pills and supplements. Well we tell you what, it is always wise to know ALL about this thing that you want to take as a part of your life, so that it won’t become a traitor in the end.

What exactly is a white bean extract? This is a substance derived from kidney beans. This substance inhibits the work of an enzyme in our body named “alpha Amylase”. Now as the terms get more scientific, we will try our best to explain this in a way that you would understand. Take a metal chain as an example. We will call this metal chain as “Amylose”. Now, amylose is a type of carbohydrate that is found in many foods such as potatoes, cereals, rice and etc. This metal chain, before it can be absorbed by our gut, should be broken down into its individual links, and this is the work of the alpha Amylase. White bean extract prevents the alpha amylase from doing its responsibility, leaving the chain of carbohydrate intact. In this way, it cannot be absorbed by the body, and will be later on expelled in the toilet.

Sounds cool, right? But this isn’t all good for everyone, especially those who are already ready to buy them. This has side effects to our body, and if they can’t be treated in the right way, they can cause big problems. The major side effects are diarrhea, ketosis, and weight gain.

Why diarrhea? The amylose is a complex carbohydrate and is also a form of a fiber. Fiber soaks up water in our gut like a sponge. This makes our feces wet.

Ketosis is a condition of excess ketones in the body. Carbohydrates are the body’s main energy source. So when the body senses that it is not absorbing carbs anymore, it will resort to breaking down protein to gain its needed energy. The result is a huge amount of ketones in your blood.

Weight gain is definite when you end your supplementation. Because you made your body hungry for carbohydrates for an amount of time, it will be much happy to absorb carbs if there is nothing blocking them anymore. Thus, results to weight gain.

It is not wrong to use supplements in our goal to lose weight. But when we rely solely on them without doing our part in exercising and eating healthy food, we will have an ineffective way of keeping ourselves fit.

Apple Juice

The apple juice has been a hot topic for the past few days. Some experiments and studies have accused apple juice of containing arsenic, which has been reported to be dangerous to the health of human beings. Arsenic is a metal and is considered poisonous to the body. When it has been ingested in large amounts, the victim should be brought to the hospital and the metal should be removed from the body.

However, some scientists and diet experts say that there is nothing to be afraid of in drinking apple juice. While arsenic has been labeled dangerous, what all people must know is that there are two types of the arsenic metal, the organic and the inorganic. The organic arsenic is the one that is completely safe for the human body, while the devil among the two is the inorganic type.

How is apple juice made?

Apple fruit juice is made by macerating and pureeing apples. The juice that is extracted undergoes more processes that remove the components starch and pectin, resulting in a clear juice solution.

What is the nutritional value of apple juice?

Good news for those who are maintaining weight, or plan to lose weight, apple juice is one of the juices for you. Because apple juice comes from apples, they are certified healthy, and they contain no amount of fat or cholesterol. Although some amount of vitamins and the fiber is lost during the processing, all the juices are fortified, especially with ascorbic acid. Unsweetened apple juice contains 114 calories per 250 grams, 24 grams of natural sugars, and 2% dietary fiber. It contains 159% of vitamin C, 7% of potassium, and 2%each of calcium and iron. It has 0.2 grams of protein, 0.3 grams of vitamin B-complex, and 219 grams of water.

Based on these content, apple juice has always been, and will always be, a healthy drink for all ages. Although those juices which are sweetened and have high sugar content should not be constantly given to children (to prevent childhood obesity), they are still generally healthy and should not be restricted.

Technology is really amazing when it comes to discovering new stuff about our environment. But it does not mean that we should become paranoid with news that aim to destroy our thinking about healthy foods. Always remember that knowledge is power, and we should do our part in researching stuff first before we assume a thing to be true.

Are you a person who loves to have the color green on your plate on your every meal? Or are you just an omnivore who wants to eat your way to a healthy lifestyle? Well, guess what, set aside your veggies, and make some way for something unexpected, and green. Say hello to wheatgrass.

You may be imagining horses and cows eating grass now, but wheatgrass is something amazing. I didn’t even believe it at first when I learned that since the 1930’s, wheatgrass has been added to human’s list of edibles, and we owe it all to this very awesome person named Charles Schnabel.

Wheatgrass commonly comes in the form of powdered juice or tablets. It has already been commercialized because of its very healthy content. Who would have thought that this green, green grass has protein, vitamins A, E, C, D, and B12, and minerals like calcium, phosphorus and etc.? And let’s not forget the thing that makes it green – chlorophyll.

Chlorophyll, which is the green pigment that is present in all plants is miraculous because of its many benefits for your health. It detoxifies, it cleans your liver, it helps improve blood sugar problems, it is also antibacterial, and etc.

Since wheatgrass is a plant, it is very high in fiber. In fact, according to some studies, fifteen pounds of wheatgrass is equivalent in nutritional value to 350 pounds of the usual garden vegetables.

The study for the effectiveness of wheatgrass was first tested on hens. The hens who had taken wheatgrass along with their usual diet became healthier and laid more eggs than those hens that were healthier before. A lot of humans, too, had already experienced the wonders of wheat grass. Many had already said that they feel clean on the inside, many lost weight, and many felt happier and had more energy after including the wheatgrass in their diet. Of course, when they were interviewed, they said that they had more will and energy to exercise and eat a healthy diet.

Wheatgrass can be grown indoors and outdoors. Although the methods of taking care of this plant in the two different places are a bit different, their nutritional values are the same.

See, being healthy get better every time. Now, you don’t have to drown yourselves with all kinds of vegetables every day. You just need to choose the best and the healthiest types. Plus, you can grow them in your own backyard!

Wheatgrass is so healthy and the Fat Burning Class recommends it along with other fat burning foods. We can send updates to you when you sign up for our newsletter.

Baby Back Ribs – who doesn’t know this recipe? For anyone, this is really a must-try food, because of its very special reputation in many different restaurants in almost all countries in the whole world. This food is very in demand especially with those who look for flavor and satiety in one meal.

There are a lot of people who love the baby back ribs. But do we actually know what we are or will be eating? This cuisine, just like any other food, contains nutrients and some food components which are essential for our body and is also important to be taken in balance.

So what is really the content of your baby back ribs? Let’s say that you order one baby back ribs for yourself only. That would be one serving of the meal. This usually contains 2 ribs. One serving of which is about 230 calories.

This recipe contains 28 percent of your daily recommended intake of fat, which is 18 grams of both saturated and monounsaturated fat. This is also important: the baby back ribs that you love contains a lot of cholesterol – about 27% of your recommended daily dietary intake. We have learned from a many other sources how cholesterol can put a risk to us in developing cardiovascular (heart and blood vessels) disease. Keep in mind that this refers to one serving only, which is two ribs. For a whole rack of ribs, some multiplication must be done according to the total number of ribs.

Although the baby back ribs has a bit of a downfall when it comes to fat and cholesterol content, it puts smiles back because of its great protein content. One serving contains 36% of your daily recommended dietary intake of protein. This is good news for those who want to bulk up and make their muscles strong and bigger. As we all know, protein is the building blocks of muscles and our tissues. This protein is also helpful in wound healing in some individuals who are, or may have been, injured.

The baby back ribs has these things as its content, not including the sauce and side dishes that is being served with it. We all know that knowledge is power, therefore it is important for us to know what we are eating, so that we would not do any damage to our body.

Our Fat Burning Class has tons of new information coming up in the future about how to keep yourself fit and healthy. You can get them all by subscribing to our newsletter, and we will send the news right to your inbox. If this article made you hungry, give us a ” thumbs up” and a “+1″!

Cholesterol. Others know it as a thing of a single kind. Many health-conscious folks see it as a potentially dangerous thing to join their meals. In reality, not all cholesterol is bad for your health. There are actually two major types of cholesterol and in this article, you will get to know more about them.

The first type, the High-Density Lipoproteins (HDLs), are more commonly known as good cholesterol. It is smaller than the other type, and it is denser. It has the ability to carry excess cholesterol in the blood and transport them to different organs such as the liver, adrenal glands, ovaries and testes. This simple task of the HDLs to pick-up and carry excess cholesterol has a great impact on one’s health. The excess cholesterol in the blood can build-up and in time, pile-up and form immovable plaques on your blood vessels. This can be very life-threatening especially in the blood vessels located in your heart and your brain. If these are blocked, this will be the cause of heart attacks or stroke.

How can you increase your HDLs? You may have already read these from all health-related websites and articles, but these are really the only solutions. You have to have regular exercise, have a healthy diet, and stop drinking alcohol and stop smoking. As long as you keep your heart actively pumping, your blood circulation will be active too. This means that your blood is actually flowing fast, and there is just a slim chance that any cholesterol would settle on the vessels.

The second type of cholesterol is the opposite of the HDLs. They are the Low-Density Lipoproteins (LDLs) or the bad cholesterol. LDLs also have the ability to carry excess cholesterol, but instead of bringing them to the various organs of the body just like the HDLs, they bring them to the vessel walls. This can attract other cells flowing in the blood and later form a plaque or a solid thing in the vessel, which can disrupt the blood flow. Again, if complete blockage occurs, this can lead to life-threating conditions such as heart attack and stroke.

How to decrease your LDLs? The answer is simple. Increase your HDLs.

Ever wonder what the healthiest and fittest vegetable is? It’s not green, and it does not grow above you. It is the humble sweet potato.

Who would have thought that this simple root crop has so much goodness inside it? In Asia, most of the people who live in the provinces have the sweet potatoes as a regular part of their diet. It is not anymore surprising that most of those who live so long (up to 100 years old) come from them. Truly, natural goodness, when eaten, gives you natural benefits.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest has its own set of brilliant nutritionists who has given the award for number one among all vegetables to the sweet potato. This vegetable won because of its rich dietary fiber, natural sugars, complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins A, C, iron and calcium content, and of course, for its very low saturated fat and sodium content. No naturally-occurring food has ever been this healthy.

Sweet potatoes also have a very low glycemic index rating because of its complex carbohydrates. This makes it so slow to digest that your blood sugar levels do not shoot up so suddenly, instead, your levels are regulated. This is good for the body a sudden spike in your blood glucose levels can also cause a sudden fall in the glucose level. This is called hypoglycemia, which is not good for the body. Signs of hypoglycemia may include weakness, dizziness, hunger, and when it gets worse, you can faint. Hypoglycemia is lethal for the brain because the brain’s primary source of energy is glucose.

How do you prepare the sweet potatoes? These can be fried to look like French fries, can be baked into pies or can be made into soups. A lot of recipes and delicious preparations are available online and they can also be planned in accordance with your already planned diet. These potatoes are stomach-filling, but very low in calories, which makes it a perfect partner for anyone who wants to have that healthy and fit body.

Just a word of caution for everyone who wants to include the sweet potato in their everyday diet, sweet potatoes contain the substance oxalic acid. This substance, when taken in high amounts can precipitate in your renal system which can form renal stones. But don’t worry, as long as you increase your intake of water simultaneously with your sweet potatoes, the oxalic acid can be flushed out and prevented from precipitating.

It is therefore true that one does not have to resort to synthetic preparations or medications in order to have a healthy body. Since our body is natural, the best for it is always natural, too.

Maybe you know some friends or some people who take fad diets because they think that dieting is the solution to their problem of wanting to lose weight. Maybe one of them or a number of them believe in the power of plants, in that, they only want to have plants on their plate for every meal. Declared or not, if they start hating to have animals for food, we can call them vegans.

There are two types of vegans, if we base it on the word. Ethical vegans are those who stop eating and using animals. This means that they do not eat any animal products or food with animal products in them or cooked in animal oil. They don’t even want to wear or use any object like cosmetics which were tested on animals or have animal stuff in them. On the other hand, which will be the focus of this article, the dietary vegans are those who just don’t want to include animal products in their meals.

We believe that we all know what a balanced and complete diet consists of. It should be with carbohydrates, proteins, and fats for every meal. Classic vegan diet were not well-planned which caused deficiencies and malnutrition in those who followed it. But nowadays, the vegan diet could be planned by an expert nutritionist or dietician in order to make your meals still complete.

Vegans don’t eat meat, so what do they eat instead?

Vegans substitute their meat for other preparations which can be mixed in with their greens. An example would be tofu. Tofu is made of soy beans and is the popular addition to the every vegan’s meal. Other food preparations include vegetable meat, processed in order to look and taste like meat, just like hamburger patties. For dessert, they have non-dairy products, or soy milk for their ice cream.

Having a vegan diet was attributed to a decrease in cardiovascular diseases, that’s why it is good for those who want to maintain healthy blood vessels and a healthy heart. However, this diet is not advisable for those who want to build muscle. Although legumes and nuts are also rich in protein, they still have less protein content than meat. Another thing that would be deficient would be iron, since the food richest in iron is meat.

No matter what you prefer to eat, it doesn’t matter, as long as you keep it in mind that your meals should always be balanced and complete, without giving you any deficiencies. Always consult an expert when planning your meals. Eat healthy!

For those who love to drink and socialize, maybe you are already aware of this certain day that you celebrate your favorite drink of all time: Beer. People from California have allotted a day, which was the 5th of August to be the International Beer Day. Just like any other event in the world, this international celebration has objectives or purposes as to why the day should be special.

First off from their objectives is to gather with friends and enjoy the taste of beer. Second is to celebrate those responsible for brewing and serving beer. And the third is to unite the whole world by celebrating the beers of all nations on a single day.

Of course, if it’s a beer day, then you wouldn’t want to be caught drinking anything else. If you are together with many fun and hyped celebrators on that day, drinking beer along with them will show your being sociable and fun just like them.

Several different ways of celebrating this day have been invented, through games and programs and other activities. Some exchange different types and brands of beer, some offer free drinks, others create drinking games.

While it is good to be sociable and to be with your friends, to have a common activity with them, which promotes good bonding, we have to see to it that we don’t go overboard.

It’s common knowledge that beer is really bad for anyone’s health. Beer has no good effects, no matter how little you drink. We all know that it is the most widely consumed alcoholic beverage. Many people drink it without knowing what is in it. Beers, in general, have caloric contents reaching up to 400 calories per 12-ounces.

For a person who is conscious of his weight or belly, this drink can be a traitor for you. In one night of socialization, you might not realize it but you have already gained weight in just one night. Let’s have this scenario, when you wake up in the morning, you have a terrible hangover, you don’t realize how much you drank the previous night, and you don’t know how much you should exercise everything off. Let’s say for example you have a regular workout routine, you would need to spend extra effort to lose what you have gained the previous night, but since you do not know how much the beer has damaged you, you do not increase your exercise intensity. But this is just a part of the bad side.

We also know very well that beer contains alcohol. Alcohol is a toxic substance to our body. We can actually say that alcohol is a poison. It damages the liver (which is the organ in-charge of all poisons that enter our body), and the brain especially when drank in large amounts.

You may be thinking right now, “hey, these people will try to destroy the international beer day and get out all the fun from it by preventing us from drinking!” Well, to that, we say, we are just concerned for health. It is not wrong to have fun with friends (we like having fun, too!), as long as you know what you are doing and you take responsibility for what you have done. Balance to everything is the key so that in the end, you will not regret anything.

Want to lose weight but you just can’t get the meat out of your meal? Why not try the magic of tuna?

The Tuna is a salt water fish. Not only is it famous in Asia in the form of sushi, it is also popular worldwide, usually contained in cans.

The health benefits of tuna are the regulation of blood pressure, coronary artery disease prevention, and also prevention of Alzheimer’s disease, and we all owe this to the omega-3 fatty acids present in this wonder fish.

Not only does it take care of your vital organs, muscle builders and body formers love this fish for its protein content and its low fat content. As many body builders know, protein is the key to build muscle. Amino acids, the simplest form of protein, are the building blocks of muscle, therefore, protein should always be present in the diet.

Among all the foods in the world, the food which has the most amount of protein content is animal meat and legumes. But between legumes and meat, meat has more protein. The problem of those who want to build muscle but do not want to acquire extra fat will be the source of this protein. Beef, chicken, and pork has great amounts of fat, even in the leanest parts of the animal. The problem with those animals being bred to be food is that they are being fed well enough to grow large and fat that every part of their body will have fat.

How about the tuna? Since tuna is not bred (because they are being caught from the sea), they live and grow according to their own rhythm, with no owners to force them to eat food and to hold them captive. You will see that the fat content of tuna is so small, you can eat a whole tuna and not worry about the fat you put into your body.

Here is a tabulated form of the nutrional content of tuna.

About 60% of Americans are obese. Obesity is a medical condition in which there is an excess of body fat accumulation. There are 3 classifications of obesity according to severity and are measured by the Body Mass Index (BMI). A BMI of 30-34.9 is Class I, 35-39.9 is Class II, and a BMI of 40 and above is class III. Your BMI can be computed by dividing your weight (in kilograms) by your height (in meters squared).

One question in the reality show The Biggest Loser is still fresh in my mind: “Have you ever seen an obese, OLD person?” Which points out that obese people never reach old age. Too many health complications arise from being obese. Some of these are diabetes (which may develop to even more complications), and cardiovascular diseases.

Almost every website blames the fast foods and restaurants who put too much calories in their food. It is true, though only partly true. These restaurants really do have too much calories in their food – some containing even more than your body’s recommended daily requirements.

These restaurants and food chains just do their job – make delicious food. In return, for our own health, we must do our job too. We must learn how to have balance even with these food factories all around us.
Obesity is mainly a result of an unhealthy lifestyle. It’s either you’re eating too much than what your body needs, or you’re not doing anything to burn off the excess. This is why all the food calories that are in excess are stored in your body as fat. For more information about how calories are turned to fat, read Calories Decoded.

One guy I know, who was obese since childhood, relayed his experiences to us. As a child, he was pampered by his parents, well, a little too much, and this resulted to always giving him ONLY what he wanted to eat. According to him, he became chubby and overweight. His problems started to sprout when he came to middle and high school. He was bullied and his life became miserable. What’s good was that he didn’t give up and he vowed to change his life by losing weight. He worked out, he followed a good diet despite the presence of peer pressure. He even made his friends watch out for him if ever he would stray away from his healthy pattern. Right now he has a normal BMI and he looks and feels good.

No matter how many websites and articles you encounter and read, they all boil down to the same thing. To achieve your IDEAL weight, you have to balance 3 things: exercise, diet and rest. It is never too late to change your lifestyle.
